Immigration
The Trump administration has increasingly targeted individuals who are in the U.S. legally—students, workers, refugees, and green card holders—for detention or deportation. Many were seized without cause, despite holding valid documents or protected status, demonstrating a broader campaign of fear that disregards legal immigration status.
University`s Collapse Tied to Trump’s Immigration Policies
Denton County and its economy are built around the University of North Texas. Denton County also went 56/43 for Trump in 2024. That`s because most voters there wanted to get rid of immigrants.

Now, as international students disappear, the university is collapsing. They burned down their own house.

Trump`s Immigration Policies Deceive and Hurt the Innocent
This is such an important point. That 5-year-old and his dad should never been detained in the first place! That`s because they were already in the system and going through the legal process to seek asylum — and their arrest was seemingly just to juice ICE`s numbers.

Greg Sargent(gregsargent.bsky.social): This kid and his father entered via CBP One app. It`s just absurd and monumentally unfair for people who availed themselves of lawful channels when they existed by following government processes to suddenly get detained and deported to a third country.

The suit alleges that despite the government’s own directives, the parents “were never given a choice as to whether their children should be deported with them and were prohibited from contacting their counsel or having meaningful contact with their families to arrange for the care of their children.” The mothers, named in the suit as Rosario and Julia, allege they wanted their children to remain in the U.S.

Abrego Garcia released
Judge Crenshaw orders Kilmar Abrego Garcia released pending trial, finding that he is not a danger to the community and writing that the Trump administration’s key allegations again him “border on fanciful.”
h/t @cristianfarias.com

These representations of Abrego's conduct, while undoubtedly serious, are not enough in conjunction with Agent Joseph's limited testimony about guns and drugs to carry the Government's burden. Nor does the Government's poor attempts to tie Abrego to MS-13 get it there. Of the three witnesses Agent Joseph testified about that discussed Abrego's purported affiliation with MS-13, the closest any of them come to stating that Abrego is a member of MS-13 is two witnesses stating he was "familial" with gang members and a third witness stating she "believed" him to be a member. Entirely absent from the record, however, are any indications that such "belief" is rooted in fact or that such "familial" nature came from his actual membership in or support of MS-13 rather than the simple fact that he, like many members of MS-13, is El Salvadorian. For instance, there is no evidence before the Court that Abrego: has markings or tattoos showing gang affiliation; has working relationships with known MS-13 members; ever told any of the witnesses that he is a MS-13 member; or has ever been affiliated with any sort of gang activity. To the contrary, Agent Joseph presented testimony based on statements from cooperating witnesses that Abrego transported both Barrio and MS-13 members alike, and was cordial with both during those trips. This cuts against the already slim evidence demonstrating Abrego is a member of MS-13. Based on the record before it, for the Court to find that Abrego is member of or in affiliation with MS-13, it would have to make so many inferences from the Government's proffered evidence in its favor that such conclusion would border on fanciful.

Judge Crenshaw also prohibits ICE from taking Abrego Garcia into custody upon his release from jail and bars the government from expelling him to a third country without due process. (storage.courtlistener.com)

N.H. green card holder denied re-entry to U.S. after visiting native Canada
A New Hampshire man is not being allowed to return home after taking a family trip to Canada.

Chris Landry is a legal U.S. resident and has lived in the Granite State since he was 3 years old. He has a partner, five children and a job in manufacturing.

He was stopped Sunday at the border in Houlton, Maine, while returning from a family vacation. “They denied me re-entry and said, ‘Don’t come back or we will detain you,’ and the only way for me to get back in was to see an immigration judge,” he told NBC10 Boston from New Brunswick.

In 2004 and 2007, Landry faced charges of marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license, but he says he’s had no criminal record since then. He was given a suspended sentence and paid his fines.

Landry, who lives in Peterborough, New Hampshire, was with three of his children (all citizens) when he was stopped at the border. Landry says he goes to Canada at least once a year and has never had a problem until now.

Too sick to fly? 100 days in ICE detention
Irish tourist jailed 100 days by ICE after overstaying US visit by 3 days — because he was too sick to fly: report

The visitor, a father of three from Ireland identified as Thomas, was visiting his girlfriend in West Virginia last fall when he fell sick, the newspaper reported. He overstayed the 90 days he was allowed to be in the country under the visa waiver program by three days,

Specifically, per the report, "He had initially planned to return home in October, but badly tore his calf, suffered severe swelling and was having trouble walking." The report stated that a doctor had ordered him not to travel due to a risk of blood clots.

He was only three days overdue to leave, had medical paperwork confirming his condition, and had proactively reached out to both the Irish and American embassies and the Department of Homeland Security to explain the situation, the Guardian reported.

1 wrong step = 2 weeks in windowless cell
ICE detains mom & 4 U.S. citizen children—just for hugging her sister on Canada border.

Accidentally taking 1 step over the line saying goodbye "triggered this unfounded accusation."

Peace Arch State Park in Washington state has long been considered a neutral to visit on the U.S/Canadian border—something Kenia Jackeline Merlos & her family have routinely done without incident.

"It is wholly unprecedented to detain any individual for weeks without cause—let alone four U.S. citizens," said Congresswoman Maxine Dexter.

"This is what authoritarianism looks like. Citizen children abducted. Community members disappeared. We cannot look away. We cannot back down."

Rep calls for deportation of Mamdani, a citizen
It is no secret that I have profound disagreements with Zohran Mamdani. But every Democrat - and every decent person - should speak out with moral clarity against the despicable Islamophobic attacks that have been directed at him.
Demanding the deportation of an American citizen simply because he is Muslim - or simply because he holds political views different from your own - is not only bigoted. It is profoundly unAmerican. Bigotry in every form should be rejected unequivocally.

Rep. Andy Ogles (@RepOgles): Zohran "little muhammad" Mamdani is an antisemitic, socialist, communist who will destroy the great City of New York. He needs to be DEPORTED. Which is why I am calling for him to be subject to denaturalization proceedings. Attached is my letter to @AGPamBondi.
500k Hatians face loss of legal status
🚨NEW: The Trump admin moves to terminate Temporary Protected Status for HALF A MILLION Haitians, claiming despite all reality that Haiti is a safe country to return to — even though large portions of the country are ruled by vicious gangs and civil governance has collapsed.

If this action is not blocked in court, this would mean that by this fall, the Trump admin would have "de-documented" over ONE MILLION PEOPLE, stripping their ability to work legally and subjecting them to possible deportation.

Hundreds of thousands of them entered legally.

As the Trump admin claims Haiti is safe now, here are multiple articles from the last 48 hours showing how much that is a complete lie! The gang still control large parts of Port-au-Prince, the international security force is failing, and displacement has hit record levels.

The Trump administration is 100% lying when they claim Haiti is safe, as even their own government agencies say it is not. Below is what the US government itself still says about Haiti. This is NOT a safe place to send people. It's a death sentence.

Trump's animus against Haitians is extremely well-documented.

The economic impacts of terminating TPS for Haiti is dramatic, and will be heavily felt by red states too; Ohio, Florida, Kansas... lots of those states have tens of thousands of Haitians living and working there legally right now. We're talking hundreds of thousands of jobs lost in a single day. (travel.state.gov)

Justice Department efforts to strip citizenship from naturalized Americans likely violate constitutional rights
The Trump administration wants to take away citizenship from naturalized Americans on a massive scale.

While a recent Justice Department memo prioritizes national security cases, it directs the department to “maximally pursue denaturalization proceedings in all cases permitted by law and supported by the evidence” across 10 broad priority categories.

The Trump administration’s “maximal enforcement” approach means pursuing any case where evidence might support taking away citizenship, regardless of priority level or strength of evidence. As our earlier research documented, this has already led to cases like that of Baljinder Singh, whose citizenship was revoked based on a name discrepancy that could easily have resulted from a translator’s error rather than intentional fraud.

The Supreme Court, in Afroyim v. Rusk, was focused on protecting existing citizens from losing their citizenship. The constitutional principle behind that decision – that citizenship is a fundamental right which can’t be arbitrarily taken away by whoever happens to be in power – applies equally to how the government handles denaturalization cases today.

The Trump administration’s directive, combined with court procedures that lack basic constitutional protections, risks creating a system that the Afroyim v. Rusk decision sought to prevent – one where, as the Supreme Court said, “A group of citizens temporarily in office can deprive another group of citizens of their citizenship.” (yahoo.com)
ICE Ignoring Drug Traffickers and Criminals
Just so we’re clear about what’s happening here:

ICE has been instructed to leave cases of ACTUAL CRIMINALS alone (drug smugglers, etc.) so they can go after hardworking farmers and child care workers.

It’s not even about crime. It never was. This is about racism.
At ICE's Homeland Security Investigations division, which has long focused on cartels and major drug-trafficking operations, supervisors have waved agents off new cases so they have more time to make immigration-enforcement arrests, a veteran agent told me. "No drug cases, no human trafficking, no child exploitation," the agent said. "It's infuriating." The longtime ICE employee is thinking about quitting rather than having to continue "arresting gardeners."

Son of American GI facing deportation
Ho Nguyen is facing deportation after an ICE arrest at his immigration court check-in this week. He came to the U.S. from Vietnam at age 13 as part of the Amerasian Homeland Act, for kids fathered by American G.I’s.

His family says he lost his green card due to an illegal gambling charge as a young man. He remained in the U.S. under a work visa, eventually marrying and raising two step kids.

The family told @dylantbrown that restoring his green card is a daunting legal cost and they haven’t located his biological father. They also showed him a letter from his employer, vouching for his work history. As you would expect, his family is devastated.

"Dao said that Ho came to America through the Amerasian Homecoming Act. That specifically allowed Amerasians (those born to at least one American parent) born between 1962 and 1976, along with their immediate relatives, to apply for U.S. residency. The act was a response to the social and economic hardships faced by Amerasians in post-war Vietnam."

These people are out of control.
Stone was at the court to observe proceedings and how the federal agents act, which is legal and, according to Ruth Mendez of Detention Resistance, is a 1st Amendment right.

“The fear is very, very real here," Mendez said, "and the volunteers that are showing up today are now coming, knowing that there might be a risk of our own detention.”

No charges have been pressed against Stone, but her family said her phone was confiscated.

Mendez worries there will be invisible impacts — like people deciding not to volunteer. In fact, an officer in the video can be heard suggesting that more people could get detained.

“The message that it sent was very clear: For us to be afraid to come back and do the work that we're doing,” Mendez said, adding that “all Americans should know that this is how their taxpayer money is being spent, and that it is really a crying shame. The people who are actually suffering are the people who are seeking asylum.”

Admin completely made up MS13 narrative about Garcia
DOJ whistleblower Erez Reuveni turns over his emails to Congress! Here's one showing how the admin tried to paint Kilmar Abrego Garcia as a "a leader of MS-13," which was shot down since it was clearly made up.

Reuveni says he was fired for telling the truth to a judge.
BREAKING: Emails given to Congress by DOJ whistleblower reveal new details about Abrego Garcia fiasco. They show how Trump officials searched for ways to paint him as dangerous criminal & gang "leader" and couldn't find any. But smears continued.
DOJ insider Erez Reuveni filed whistleblower complaint in June which you read about. Buried in complaint is also damning info on Abrego Garcia case

Reuveni has now supplied emails. Here's an exchange about admin's effort to paint Abrego as MS-13 "leader"

None of this stopped the smears. In one case, JD Vance told @DouthatNYT that Abrego Garcia was a "high-level" member of MS-13, long after top officials had internally debated this and knew they had no evidence he was a gang leader, as these emails show.

This whistleblower says he pressed Trump officials for evidence of Abrego Garcia's MS-13 ties. He refused to sign a brief that he said contained falsehoods. He was fired.

The whole case stinks from top to bottom in many other ways, too. Here's a rundown:

ICE is illegally detaining wheelchair bound citizen (1 month+)
ICE arrests daughter of U.S. Navy veteran—locked in jail over a month.

She was separated from lawyer & detained without medicine—agents crashed her wheelchair into the wall in the process.

Born in Philippines while her father served in Navy—she has lived in U.S. for 48 years.

"She’s an American citizen. That has been clearly established," explained her lawyer.

"In spite of this fact, the U.S. government has refused to recognize her citizenship."

ICE is not permitted to assert its civil immigration enforcement authority to arrest or detain U.S. citizens—even if they have been convicted of a crime.

Alma Bowman is daughter of U.S. Navy veteran who fought in Vietnam.

Listen to her lawyer detail how she was separated from her client—all the while ICE agents were joking around & singing along to "Back That Ass Up" on the radio.

Her lawyer proved she had credible claim to U.S. citizenship—but ICE detained her anyway.

Alma Bowman is still locked up in a federal detention center 1 month later.

ICE often arrests US citizens: Davino Watson spent 3.5 yrs in detention
I don’t know if Americans realize how often ICE arrests US citizens, and how long those citizens can spend detained. I spoke to Davino Watson, who spent 3.5 years in a detention center. He was a citizen every minute of that time. If you get arrested by ICE, could you prove you’re a citizen? Often agents quickly correct their mistake.

But sometimes they don’t:
If Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests you for an immigration-related offense, and you tell the agency you are a citizen, it might not release you. Citizenship isn’t something that you wear on your body. Maybe you pull an ID, a passport, or even a birth certificate, but agents frequently assume these are fake. In that case, you will be taken to a detention center run by a private prison company. You can tell the guards there that you’re a citizen, but they’ll likely respond with some version of “tell it to the judge.” Your immigration-court appearance could be weeks, or even months, away. You will wait behind bars. There’s no right to counsel in immigration court — if you can’t afford a lawyer, you’ll have to represent yourself. When you finally see the inside of a courtroom, it could be what ICE calls a “mass removal” hearing with dozens of other defendants. You won’t have a chance to talk to a judge.

ICE Arrests Mississippi Father at His Citizenship Hearing, Threatening Deportation
One morning, sitting in an immigration office in Memphis, Kasper Eriksen found himself transformed. Only a day before, he was a welding foreman, a husband and father of four who lived on a family farm in Sturgis, Mississippi. Now, he was a detainee, bound and shackled to the sterile white seats of a detention shuttle in Tennessee, headed southwest, barely able to wriggle.

Kasper has never been charged with or convicted of any crime. He has not been accused of being a member of MS-13 or Tren de Aragua. What led the government to rip Kasper out of the arms of his family was, to the best of his knowledge, a single document. Form I-751, appropriately clinical, a “Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence,” was just one of the endless documents he needed on his decade-plus journey to American citizenship.

Kasper and his wife, Savannah Hobart Eriksen, never submitted that form, which was due all the way back in 2015. She had suffered a stillbirth, losing their first child, and in the days of grief that followed, the deadline slipped right past them. But Kasper’s naturalization continued unimpeded. He corresponded with immigration officials numerous times over the next 10 years, and says agents never warned him that a critical document was missing. He paid taxes each year, reliably contributing a portion of his labor to the nation he already felt a part of.

Non-uniformed men, w/o ID or warrant kidnap person w/legal status
ICE caught on video kidnapping man from his home—no uniforms, no ID, no warrant—starts at 55 sec.

"Agents came onto my property, tackled my husband, assaulted him," said wife. "Dragged him to unmarked vehicle."

His I-130 petition was granted recognizing marriage to U.S. citizen as "qualifying relationship" for visa application in 2024.

Martin Diaz was brought to U.S. when he was just 1 & 1/2 years old by his parents fleeing gang violence—he even has a letter from the Michoacan government explaining the dangers his family faced.

A federal database shows he previously had an immigration case that was dismissed in 2012—he does have past criminal record.

However, his wife explained: "Last year we filed our I-130 through our marriage and it was accepted. Then we received a letter in the mail just last week requesting his application for his visa."

Why would they send Martin Diaz a letter asking him to apply for a visa—and then deport him 1 week later?

Martin Diaz was driving to work when he noticed he was being followed.

He returned home—and after exiting his vehicle—was chased, tackled and arrested by unidentified agents.

He was detained by the plainclothed ICE agents just days after receiving notice requesting his visa application following approval of their I-130 "Petition for Alien Relative."

Martin Diaz came to the U.S. as a toddler and is married to a U.S. citizen—they live together in Spokane, Washington.
12% of the people sent to El Salvador prison had legal status
A new WaPo investigation reveals more brazen lawlessness from the Alien Enemies deportations. They found:
-Many of the kidnapped men were in this country legally
-At least 2 were vetted and approved to resettle as refugees
-At least 4 had protections against removal.

This is just of the roughly 50 cases they were able to examine!

We must get these people back. We cannot allow the Trump admin to kidnap people and send them to rot for life in a foreign dungeon!

Legal Venezuelans sent to El Salvador
It keeps getting worse. Two of the Venezuelans sent to El Salvador had been approved as refugees and gone through extensive vetting. Others had a legal right to be here.

They don’t even have the idea that they’re illegals to hide behind. It is clear that anyone still defending the administration at this point would have no problem with a mass roundup of political opponents.

Some were political opponents to the Venezuelan regime. This is what we do to dissidents against authoritarian governments now. The moral depravity of the MAGA movement has somehow reached a new low.

Wow, finally we get some answer as to what happened! They really did just run all foreign students through law enforcement databases and terminate SEVIS for anyone with a match, no matter the circumstances of the "offense" (including speeding tickets and even dropped charges).

Kyle Cheney (@kyledchene): HAPPENING NOW: DHS official tells court that agency leadership diverted 10-20 employees to run *1.3 million* names of foreign students through database that tracks criminal charges. Took 2-3 weeks.
There were fewer than 6,400 hits (0.004%). But thousands were for charges that never led to convictions or were dropped.
This is the group whose F1 status was revoked by ICE, many of whom also had their State Dept. visas revoked.
ICE/DOJ says State Dept. is who recommended that ICE terminate the students' records in the SEVIS system.

2 yr old US Citizen Exiled
Judge says 2-year-old US citizen appears to have been deported with ‘no meaningful process’ (politico.com)

A federal judge is raising alarms that the Trump administration deported a two-year-old U.S. citizen to Honduras with “no meaningful process,” even as the child’s father was frantically petitioning the courts to keep her in the country.

The judge on Friday scheduled a hearing for May 16, which he said was “in the interest of dispelling our strong suspicion that the Government just deported a U.S. citizen with no meaningful process.”

Doughty’s sharp criticism of the Trump administration is particularly notable because he issued a series of major decisions in favor of Trump and his allies in recent years, most notably backing conservatives in legal challenges to the Biden administration’s efforts to rein in what it claimed was misinformation on social media platforms about vaccines and certain politically charged topics.

2nd Judge Ordered Illegally Deported Man Returned
SECOND JUDGE IN SECOND CASE ORDERS ADMINISTRATION TO BRING A SECOND ILLEGALLY DEPORTED MAN BACK FROM EL SALVADOR

A Federal judge in a case that is *not* the Abrego Garcia case has ordered the administration to bring back a 20-year-old man (alias for the case is "Cristian") who was deported to El Salvador in direct violation of a Court-endorsed settlement that had been reached 5 years earlier.

In 2019 Cristian was determined to be an unaccompanied alien minor; in a class action lawsuit the Court entered a settlement by which the minor immigrants would NOT BE DEPORTED, but instead would get to remain in the U.S. and apply for asylum when they each turned 18.

When he turned 18 he filed a claim for asylum. He was part of that class action settlement which, again, included that the class (including Cristian) would NOT be deported while their asylum applications were pending, and not until (if at all) their asylum claim had been *fully processed*.

Cristian is now 20, and his asylum claim still has not been processed. Instead, they deported him to El Salvador in direct violation of the Court order (settlement).

Yesterday Judge Gallagher ordered the administration to bring him back, and, having clearly paid attention to the Abrego Garcia case and the Supreme Court order, she made clear what "facilitate" means (see screenshot).

Admin trying to deport 3 NY people w/active asylum applications
At least three Venezuelan men who were seeking asylum in New York are now being held at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in northern Texas and are at risk of being removed from the country, possibly to a notorious detention camp in El Salvador, court documents reveal.

Their New York City-based lawyers said they have been denied due process and are in danger of being sent to an El Salvador prison camp.

According to Lee, both of Legal Aid’s clients were arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in New York and had been held in different ICE detention facilities around the country. Neither of them have a criminal conviction, Lee said, and at least one of them was a so-called “collateral arrest” – the term used when ICE doesn’t have a specific warrant to arrest someone but just takes them into custody because they come across them randomly.

ICE detains Trump voter celebrating Palm Sunday
ICE detains Trump voter celebrating Palm Sunday—says he was "treated like a criminal."

Bachir Atallah has been a U.S. citizen for 10 years.

"I really thought things would change when we have Mr. Trump in office—change to the better," he said. "Things actually changed to worse."

On his way home from celebrating Palm Sunday with his family in Canada, he was stopped while crossing the border into Vermont

An ICE agent told him to exit the car while reaching for his gun. They handcuffed him while twisting his arm and wrist, and then dragged him inside.

"Then I had to, under duress, give him permission to look through my email, through my privileged information, and he made me write a statement, signed by me, saying that I gave him permission to look through the email."

Bachir Atallah was allowed to call his sister many hours later—she is an immigration attorney.

He is supposed to leave for Lebanon in a few days but is not sure if it's going to be safe to travel—even though he's a U.S. citizen.

The Trump administration will end temporary protections for more than 10,000 people from Afghanistan and Cameroon, putting them on track for deportation in May and June, Department of Homeland Security officials said on Friday.

Many of the Afghans affected by the decision had been allowed into the United States after the disastrous U.S. withdrawal from their country in 2021. Now, the Trump administration could send them back to a country under Taliban rule.

Revoking T.P.S. for Afghans would be a stark reversal in the country’s treatment of Afghan allies who fought and worked alongside the U.S. government.

An ‘Administrative Error’ Sends a Maryland Father to a Salvadoran Prison
The Trump administration acknowledged in a court filing Monday that it had grabbed a Maryland father with protected legal status and mistakenly deported him to El Salvador, but said that U.S. courts lack jurisdiction to order his return from the megaprison where he’s now locked up.

Court filings show that Abrego Garcia came to the United States at age 16 in 2011 after fleeing gang threats in his native El Salvador. In 2019 he received a form of protected legal status known as “withholding of removal” from a U.S. immigration judge who found he would likely be targeted by gangs if deported back.

Abrego Garcia, who is married to a U.S. citizen and has a 5-year-old disabled child who is also a U.S. citizen, has no criminal record in the United States.

“ICE was aware of this grant of withholding of removal at the time [of] Abrego Garcia’s removal from the United States. Reference was made to this status on internal forms,” the government told the court in its filing.

Abrego Garcia’s family has had no contact with him since he was sent to the megaprison in El Salvador, known as CECOT. His wife spotted her husband in news photographs released by Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele on the morning of March 16, after a U.S. district judge had told the Trump administration to halt the flights.

“Oopsie,” Bukele wrote on social media, taunting the judge.

Even if you accept the premise and decision, which I absolutely do not, it is the simplest thing to phone the visa holder, tell them their visa is revoked and say they have a month to leave the country. Accosting someone on the street like a kidnapping is just a spectacle of terror.

John Quincy Adams' argument in Amistad case
Was just reading John Quincy Adams' oral arguments before SCOTUS in the Amistad case and this part seems, uh, pretty relevant
One of the grievous charges brought against George III was, that he had made laws for sending men beyond seas for trial. That was one of the most odious of those acts of tyranny which occasioned the American revolution. I submit to your Honors that, if the President has the power to do it in the case of [immigrants], and send them beyond seas for trial, he could do it by the same authority in the case of American citizens. By a simple order to the marshal of the district, he could just as well seize forty citizens of the United States, on the demand of a foreign minister, and send them beyond seas for trial before a foreign court.

Can you hear, with judicial calmness and composure, this demand of despotism, countenanced and supported by all the Executive authorities of the United States, though not yet daring to carry it into execution?

Another ICE "assault" case unravels
Another ICE "assault" case unravels. Border Patrol and ICE are arresting US citizens and then after they find out that they are US citizens, they are charging them with "assault" to justify their actions. This is clearly DHS policy at this point. We've seen it repeatedly now.
Ramirez then allegedly ran towards the agent, who was standing near the entrance of the parking lot, and collided with them. The impact of the collision allegedly threw the border patrol agent “off balance” and caused the agent’s phone to fall to the ground.

When the agent questioned Ramirez about his citizenship, the feds claimed that Ramirez refused to talk to them, despite video footage showing that Ramirez repeatedly told agents he had his passport on him.

The agent also accused Ramirez of resisting arrest and biting them on their left thigh, according to the complaint.

Ramirez was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Federal Detention Center on Alameda Street in Downtown Los Angeles. During processing, the federal agent who arrested Ramirez confirmed that he is an American citizen, according to the complaint.

On June 16, Ramirez was released on bond.

Three weeks later, on July 6, the United States Attorney’s Office filed a motion to drop the charges against Ramirez.

Iranian refugees kidnapped by mask agents - face deportation and death
I’m choked up seeing this—it’s shameful.

U.S. Charges Russian Scientist With Smuggling
In a hearing in federal district court earlier in the day, a government lawyer told a federal judge that the Trump administration intends to deport Ms. Petrova back to Russia, a country she fled in 2022, despite her fear that she will be arrested there over her history of political protest.

Ms. Petrova has admitted that she failed to declare the samples, but her lawyer has argued that this would ordinarily be treated as a minor infraction, punishable with a fine. Instead, the customs official canceled Ms. Petrova’s J-1 visa on the spot and initiated deportation proceedings.

Christina Reiss, chief judge of the United States District Court in Vermont, repeatedly quizzed the government lawyers about their grounds for canceling Ms. Petrova’s visa and detaining her.

“Where is that authority?” she asked. “Where does a customs and border patrol officer have the authority on his or her own to revoke a visa?” she said. “It’s got to be somewhere. Because there is no way that person has kind of an unlimited determination.”

Judge Reiss noted that she had reviewed the statute laying out the grounds for customs officers to find someone inadmissible to the United States, and “I don’t see anything about customs violations.” (nytimes.com)
Columbia Student Hunted by ICE Sues to Prevent Deportation
Yunseo Chung, a legal permanent resident who has lived in the U.S. since she was 7, participated in pro-Palestinian demonstrations. Immigration agents visited residences looking for her.

The student, Yunseo Chung, is a legal permanent resident and junior who has participated in pro-Palestinian demonstrations at the school. The Trump administration is arguing that her presence in the United States hinders the administration’s foreign policy agenda of halting the spread of antisemitism.

But the attempted arrest of Ms. Chung, like the detention of Mr. Khalil, appears to be part of a new front in the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown — targeting immigrants who are farther along in their paths to citizenship. (nytimes.com)

The Big Takeover: The secret plans to give Trump command of America’s police
Since President Donald Trump's inauguration in January, his administration has ruthlessly prosecuted his promises of mass deportations. He has sent deportees to Guantanamo Bay and a “terrorist” prison in El Salvador. He has placed control of the southern border in the hands of the military. And, despite promising to focus on hardened criminals, the administration has widened its immigrant dragnet by targeting documented and undocumented immigrants alike.

Internal Project 2025 documents obtained by CRN and New Times clearly state that targeting these alleged immigrant “terrorists” has been a vital part of a proposed communications strategy. The aim of that strategy: to galvanize political support for a broader plan to dramatically restructure and militarize law enforcement, nationwide, under the command of President Trump.

A significant portion of the documents discuss domestic counter-intelligence. The draft proposals contain recommendations to investigate, prosecute and even seize the assets of non-governmental organizations, along with state, municipal and federal agencies that provide services to immigrants and refugees.

Documents describe some NGOs and specific government agencies as potential targets because they are perceived to oppose the priorities of the president, and because they are "accomplices to immigration crime."

Already, surrogates of the president have suggested prosecuting people — including lawmakers — who distribute “Know Your Rights” material or post about the whereabouts of ICE officers. (phoenixnewtimes.com)

Another person was protected from deportation by a legal settlement. Trump deported him anyway.
NEW from @joshgerstein.bsky.social: You’ve heard of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Now meet the second man erroneously deported to El Salvador in violation of a legal settlement: Daniel Lozano-Camargo.

Until now, he’d only been identified by a pseudonym in court.

"“My son isn’t one of Tren de Aragua,” his mother, Daniela Camargo, declared in a tearful Facebook video. “Anyone who knows my son knows he’s innocent.” Lozano-Camargo’s lawyers did not answer questions about their client. His mother and girlfriend did not immediately respond to inquiries.

Crucially, Lozano-Camargo was also covered by a 2024 legal settlement that barred immigration authorities from deporting him while his request for asylum was pending. U.S. District Judge Stephanie Gallagher, the Trump-appointed judge who approved that settlement, ruled last month that Lozano-Camargo’s deportation violated the agreement.

Gallagher ordered the administration to “facilitate” Lozano-Camargo’s return, but the Trump administration is resisting that demand. In a court filing released Monday, the Justice Department called Lozano-Camargo a member of “a violent terrorist gang” and said that disqualifies him from asylum in the U.S.

Under those circumstances, bringing Lozano-Camargo back to the U.S. “would no longer serve any legal or practical purpose,” DOJ lawyers wrote." (politico.com)

Admin Targets & Harasses Lawyers
1. Clay Jackson, a Texas lawyer, provided basic legal advice to an immigrant family fearing deportation

Then, two officers visited him at his home, accusing him of "obstructing an ongoing immigration investigation" Then, after speaking publicly, he was fired from his job at a Fortune 500 company

2. A gas station attendant asked Jackson to talk to an immigrant family fearing deportation. He agreed and met w/them for an hour. Two days later, two plain-clothes officers came to his home and accused him of obstructing an immigration investigation

3. Jackson told his story to journalist Radley Balko. At Jackson's request, Balko did not identify Jackson's employer in the piece. The story was published on April 23. Later that day, Jackson was fired.

4. The owner and founder of the company, billionaire Bill Foley, is a major Republican donor and Trump supporter. Foley gave 500K to Trump in 2020 and 2024. And millions more to other Republican causes.

5. FNF told Jackson he was fired for "unsatisfactory performance and violations of company policy." The company did not detail what policies Jackson allegedly violated. FNF did not respond to a request for comment.

6. The targeting of Jackson is consistent with a larger effort by the Trump administration to harass and intimidate lawyers who assist undocumented immigrants.

AG Blatantly Lying
The Attorney General of the United States blatantly lied—not once, but four times in a matter of seconds.
1) No court has ever ruled that Kilmar Abrego Garcia was a member of MS-13. Not one. The accusation came from a single informant. No judge confirmed it. No charges were ever filed. No conviction. Nothing.

2) No court has ever ruled that Abrego Garcia was in the U.S. illegally.

3) Prior to deportation he also was not here illegally. An immigration judge granted him “withholding of removal” status. That legally allowed him to live and work in the U.S. because returning him to El Salvador posed a serious threat to his life.

4) The Supreme Court’s 9-0 ruling didn’t say “only if El Salvador agrees.” That’s pure spin. The Court ordered the government to facilitate his return. There was no stipulation saying “but only if El Salvador feels like it.”

1. A DOJ lawyer admitted in court on Friday that Mr. A-G should not have been deported; expressed frustration with White House.
2. So, a judge ordered Mr. A-G’s return by Monday.
3. The DOJ lawyer was placed on administrative leave on Saturday for admitting to the facts around this illegal deportation.
4. On Saturday, the Regime filed for a stay to avoid bringing Mr. A-G back.
5. On Sunday, the stay was denied.

A "path of perfect lawlessness"
Thacker: "the Govt made no argument whatsoever that it would suffer irreparable harm in the absence of a stay ... Perhaps for good reason—the Govt is not irreparably harmed by facilitating and effectuating the return of a person within its control who was wrongfully removed from the United States."

"If the Government wanted to prove to the district court that Abrego Garcia was a "prominent" member of MS-13, it has had ample opportunity to do so but has not — nor has it even bothered to try."

Judge Thacker (Obama), joined by Judge King (Clinton), wrote that first concurrence. Judge Wilkinson (Reagan), then, wrote his own concurrence.

Wilkinson: "It takes no small amount of imagination to understand that ths is a path of perfect lawlessness, one that courts cannot condone."

Gov argue plane in the air isn't subject to US law
The government makes what seems to be a shocking legal argument that once the planes left US airspace, the people onboard could be seen as no longer being subject to the Alien Enemies Act, but instead being renditioned to El Salvador under inherent presidential authority.

That's a WILD claim.

This argument suggests the existence of some kind of foreign policy loophole whereby the Executive could disregard the law to bring anyone accused of a national security threat outside of US territory, at which point he, as President, could do whatever he wants to them on national security ground.

Trump`s Mass Deportations are a Forever War Against America
Trump's urban occupations and violent campaign of mass deportations constitute his Forever War. It has its own arms buildup, its own war profiteers, and (like after 9/11) its own metastasizing public-private bureaucracy, which is growing harder to constrain.

The MAGA terror state is growing. Schiff's report documents huge contracts for things like "an AR style rifle with military specifications."

"ICE and CBP have together placed orders to purchase thousands of new high-powered lethal weapons at taxpayer expense.”

ICE has long been an overmilitarized agency, including under previous presidents. But under Trump it's unshackling itself with warrantless arrests, expanded surveillance and massive new prison camps.

This is the post 9/11 madness supercharged and turned inward.

Trump`s mass deportations really are a Forever War. It`ll take 3 presidential terms at current pace. The prison camps are a new carceral state. It has its own growing public-private bureaucracy: Contractors, mercenary army, etc.

Trump`s policies exploit secret programs to expand detention centers
NEW — An obscure Navy contractor program is making Trump’s plans to quickly build out and supply immigrant concentration camps around the country a reality.

Here I explain WEXMAC TITUS, an acronym you need to understand:

The Worldwide Expeditionary Multiple Award Contract (WEXMAC) program was created so the Navy could quickly respond in the wake of international natural disasters, pandemics, etc.

There were 26 designated regions—until last year when they added #27: TITUS (Territorial Integrity of the United States)

“WEXMAC TITUS allows ICE to treat immigration enforcement like a national security operation rather than a standard civil immigration one,” Michael Wriston, a 20-year veteran military analyst who is now a researcher and reporter with @projectsaltbox.bsky.social told me.

DeSantis breaking law, hiding contracts for detention facility
A top aide to Ron DeSantis just admitted that the administration is breaking the law by hiding contracts connected to “Alligator Alcatraz,” the immigration detention facility it built in the middle of the Florida Everglades.

This came up at a press conference Ron DeSantis held this morning at the Everglades detention facility, where Florida is now locking up hundreds of immigrants in cages and tents. During the press conference, DeSantis was asked why his administration recently removed electronic copies of contracts and purchase orders connected to Alligator Alcatraz from a public transparency website.

The administration has since replaced the original purchasing records – which total more than $200 million in taxpayer spending on Alligator Alcatraz – with one-page summaries that don’t provide nearly as much detail about what exactly taxpayers are paying for DeSantis’ emergency management director, Kevin Guthrie, defended the move. Guthrie said the purchasing records his agency initially posted included “proprietary information” that had to be redacted. Specifically, Guthrie said the purchasing records his agency originally posted included the rates that Florida is paying certain Alligator Alcatraz vendors. Guthrie said that was proprietary, because other vendors might be able to exploit that info in future procurement bids. So Guthrie said his agency replaced the original purchasing records with what he called “summary sheets".

There are two clear problems here. First, Florida is required by law to post certain information to this transparency database. That mandatory information includes both “electronic copies of the contract and procurement documents" *and* the “applicable contract unit prices and deliverables". This is spelled out clearly in in 215.985.

But that's not all. Let's say you buy Kevin Guthrie’s claim the rates the DeSantis administration is paying vendors at Alligator Alcatraz are somehow proprietary information and not covered by the requirement to disclose unit prices. The administration is STILL breaking the law. That’s because you can’t just remove the original records completely and replace them with “summary sheets.”

The same statute is explicit about this. If state officials want to redact information from these records, they must then post “a property redacted copy of the contract or procurement document." Not a "summary sheet".

A legal black hole, hidden in a swamp
One thing is quickly becoming clear about “Alligator Alcatraz,” the immigrant detention camp that the state of Florida just opened in the middle of the Everglades: The politicians running the place are bigger lawbreakers than many of the immigrants they’re locking up.

The DeSantis administration, for instance, is staffing the facility with private correctional officers who haven’t had to submit to fingerprinting, pass a physical exam, or pass background checks...
WHEREAS, strict compliance with section 943.13(5)-(8), Florida Statutes, as it relates to required documentation for contractor-employed correctional officers, would subject the Agency to delay in taking action to facilitate the mitigation, response, and recovery necessary to respond to this emergency.

It has also suspended truck-safety laws and portable toilet permitting rules...
WHEREAS, strict compliance with the provisions of Rule 62-6.0101(3), Florida Administrative Code, regarding information which must be affixed to portable restrooms and portable or stationary holding tanks, would subject the Agency to delay in taking action to facilitate the mitigation, response, and recovery necessary to respond to this emergency; and
WHEREAS, strict compliance with section 943.13(5)-(8), Florida Statutes, as it relates to required documentation for contractor-employed correctional officers, would subject the Agency to delay in taking action to facilitate the mitigation, response, and recovery necessary to respond to this emergency.

The governor has even given himself and his aides freedom to hand out no-bid contracts, pay overtime to senior managers, and buy boats, planes and cars...
WHEREAS, strict compliance with the provisions of sections 287.055(3)(a) - (e) (4)(a)-(c), 5(a)-(c), (7), Florida Statutes, sections 287.057(1)(a)-(c), (3), (17), (21), and (26), Florida Statutes, and rules 60A-1.002(4), 60A-1.021(2), and 60A-1.043(1)-(3), Florida Administrative Code, which pertain to the procurement of personal property and services, would subject the Division to delay in taking action to facilitate the mitigation, response, and recovery necessary to respond to this emergency; and
WHEREAS, strict compliance with the provisions of section 273.055, Florida Statutes, which pertains to the disposition of state-owned tangible personal property, would subject the Division to a severe shortage of space for storing essentials and thereby would cause delay in taking action to facilitate the mitigation, response, and recovery necessary to respond to this emergency; and
WHEREAS, strict compliance with the provisions of section 215.422(3)(a)-(b), Florida Statutes, would impose an unreasonable burden on the Division in processing the large volume of invoices and other documentation associated with responding to this emergency.
WHEREAS, strict compliance with the provisions of section 287.15, Florida Statutes, which pertains to the procurement of motor vehicles, watercraft, and aircraft, would subject the Division to delay in taking action to facilitate the mitigation, response, and recovery necessary to respond to this emergency;

Suspending those procurement laws has helped the DeSantis administration rapidly issue more than $150 million worth of contracts and purchase orders connected to the detention camp at the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport (aka TNT)...

Altogether, DeSantis has suspended more than half a dozen state laws and rules using powers he gave himself when he declared a statewide state of emergency over immigration in January 2023 — a declaration initially only supposed to last for 2 months but is now in its 3rd year.

DeSantis also used those expansive emergency powers to seize the land itself – commandeering the TNT airport from its owner, Miami-Dade County, after his administration made a lowball offer to buy the site that county leaders rejected.

And where the DeSantis administration hasn’t suspended laws, he has simply chosen to flout them. Like when a group of Democratic lawmakers showed up to inspect the camp, citing state laws that permit members of the Florida Legislature to visit detention facilities “at their pleasure.” DeSantis administration officials denied them entry without citing any legal basis to do.

Then there’s the state law — a law DeSantis himself signed — that requires Florida’s Auditor General to audit all expenditures and contracts entered into any state of emergency that extends beyond one year.
(3) Once an emergency exceeds 1 year, the Auditor General shall conduct a financial audit of all associated expenditures and a compliance audit of all associated contracts entered into during the declared emergency. The Auditor General must update the audit annually until the emergency is declared to be ended.

But the Orlando Sentinel’s Jeff Schweers revealed last week that not a single such audit has ever been done during the two-and-a-half years that DeSantis has kept Florida in a state of emergency over immigration... orlandosentinel.com

The DeSantis administration has even been pushed the Trump administration to suspend federal detention center standards — so immigrants can be put camps like Florida’s, where detainees have reported worms in the food, feces on the floor, and delays in accessing medication...

Immigrants in overcapacity ICE detention go hungry
The food problems come amid overcrowding at ICE facilities tied to the Trump administration’s push to quickly ramp up immigration arrests. While capacity data isn’t publicly available for every ICE detention facility, nationwide figures on the availability of beds show a system beyond its overall capacity. As of mid-June, ICE was detaining nearly 60,000 people, almost 45% above the capacity provided for by Congress.

Although many of ICE’s detention centers are run by private contractors, the problems are happening all over the country regardless of who’s running a given facility, advocates say. A former ICE official told NBC News it is difficult for a facility to stay stocked with the right amount of food when, on any given day, it may face an unexpected surge of new detainees.

“He tells me many are given two spoonfuls of rice and that many are still hungry,” Rubimar said in an interview before Jose was deported to Venezuela.

Florida Builds ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ Detention Center for Migrants in Everglades
Immigrant advocates said the move creates a whole new form of detention outside the scope of the federal government.

The remote facility, composed of large tents, and other planned facilities will cost the state around $450 million a year to run, but Florida can request some reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said Tricia McLaughlin, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security.

Immigrant advocates criticized the move, saying that it was creating a new form of detention outside the scope of the federal government. Mark Fleming, the associate director of federal litigation at the National Immigrant Justice Center, said it amounted to an “independent, unaccountable detention system.”

“The fact that the administration and its allies would even consider such a huge temporary facility,” he said, “on such a short time line, with no obvious plan for how to adequately staff medical and other necessary services, in the middle of the Florida summer heat is demonstrative of their callous disregard for the health and safety of the human beings they intend to imprison there.”

“It simply shocks the conscience,” Mr. Fleming said.

DHS Continues to violate law for facilities visits
@DHSgov: "Unfortunately, the Congresswoman did not give sufficient notice to facilitate a visit, which is essential to keep staff and detainees safe.

For visits to detention facilities, requests should be made with sufficient time to prevent interference with the President’s Article II authority to oversee executive department functions—a week is sufficient to ensure no intrusion on the President’s constitutional authority. To protect the President’s Article II authority, any request to shorten that time must be approved by the Secretary."

ICE illegaly prevents oversight
This week, ICE illegally denied me entry into a processing facility in my district, and today, they released a statement saying I “[gave] the appearance of a political stunt intended to generate publicity rather than pursue genuine oversight.”

I have some thoughts:

On Tuesday morning, my staff notified ICE of my intention to conduct oversight at the Montana Ave facility the next day.

This is the process we have gone through innumerable times since I was elected, through both the Trump and Biden admins, including less than a month ago.

ICE responded informing me and my staff about their new procedures - we informed them of the law.

I would have preferred to quietly conduct my oversight responsibilities as I always have, but ICE chose not to follow the law.

These ‘guidelines’ are illegal, and that deserves public scrutiny.

I have every intention of continuing my oversight responsibilities and fighting back against the lawlessness of this administration every chance I get.

Plus, the Department led by a Secretary best known for cosplaying that she’s in a war zone should perhaps not lecture anyone on publicity stunts.

ICE and Border Patrol have repeatedly embraced violence and intimidation as core enforcement tools, targeting not only suspected undocumented immigrants but also the communities and observers around them. Agents have deployed tear gas and other crowd-control weapons against peaceful bystanders, then misrepresented or denied their actions afterward. These tactics are designed to instill fear, suppress protests, and discourage victims and witnesses from reporting abuses, contributing to a climate of coercion and impunity.

‘We Don’t Want Them’: Trump Signs Travel Ban on Citizens From 12 Countries
The travel ban revives an effort from President Trump’s first term that led to chaos and court battles.

President Trump on Wednesday signed a travel ban on 12 countries, primarily in Africa and the Middle East, reviving an effort from his first term to prevent large numbers of immigrants and visitors from entering the United States.

The ban, which goes into effect on Monday, bars travel to the United States by citizens of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

Mr. Trump has long railed against migration from Muslim-majority countries. During his first presidential campaign, he proposed a full ban on Muslims entering the country. In his video message on Wednesday, Mr. Trump alluded to increased migration into Europe in the last decade, which was driven by migrants fleeing Syria and other Muslim-majority countries. He claimed his first term’s travel ban helped protect the country from terror attacks.

During Mr. Trump’s first term, he tried to enforce two versions of a travel ban, but courts blocked them. The Supreme Court eventually permitted a rewritten ban — one that affected citizens from eight nations, six of them predominantly Muslim — to take effect.

Mr. Trump justified the travel ban as necessary for national security, but critics say it discriminates against people based on their ethnicity alone.

“The proclamation is another example of the president making a mockery out of immigration and national security laws in order to punish races, religions and ideas he doesn’t like,” said Becca Heller, head of the International Refugee Assistance Project. The group led a lawsuit against the first travel ban in 2017.

IRS & ICE Immigration Data-Sharing Agreement: Explainer
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) finalized a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on April 7, 2025 to share sensitive taxpayer information to aid in deportation efforts.

This unprecedented agreement represents a drastic shift away from the IRS’s longstanding commitment to taxpayer privacy. Taxpayer information is strictly confidential, with IRS privacy laws only permitting information-sharing with law enforcement authorities in very specific and narrow circumstances to help in certain criminal investigations. Acting IRS Commissioner Melanie Krause, who was appointed by President Trump earlier in 2025,resigned in protest over the signed agreement. Other top IRS officials, including chief privacy officer Kathleen Walters and chief privacy officer Teresa Hunter, also resigned over concerns the MOU likely violates taxpayer privacy law. Foreign medical residents delayed by visa issues
Some hospitals in the U.S. are without essential staff because international doctors who were set to start their medical training this week were delayed by the Trump administration’s travel and visa restrictions.
The U.S. is projected to face a physician shortage in the next 11 years, per the Association of American Medical Colleges, and foreign medical residents fill critical gaps in the health care system. More than 6,600 foreign-born international medical residents matched into U.S. programs in 2025 — the highest on record — and another 300 filled positions that were vacant after the match process was complete.

Foreign medical residents work in specialties that U.S. applicants aren’t as eager to apply to. For example, international candidates make up almost 40% of residents in internal medicine, which specializes in the prevention and treatment of chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease. Judge orders ICEs racial profiling to stop

Amendment to the Constitution and denying access to lawyers violates the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution. What the federal government would have this Court believe-in the face of a mountain
of evidence presented in this case-is that none of this is actually happening. Most of the questions before this Court are fairly simple and non-controversial, and both
sides in this case agree on the answers.
. May the federal government conduct immigration enforcement-even large scale immigration enforcement-in Los Angeles? Yes, it may.
. Do all individuals-regardless of immigration status-share in the rights guaranteed by the Fourth and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution? Yes, they do.
. Is it illegal to conduct roving patrols which identify people based upon race alone, aggressively question them, and then detain them without a warrant, without their consent, and without reasonable suspicion that they are without status? Yes, it is.
. Is it unlawful to prevent people from having access to lawyers who can help them in immigration court? Yes, it is.

There are really two questions in controversy that this Court must decide today. First, are the individuals and organizations who brought this lawsuit likely to succeed in proving that the federal government is indeed conducting roving patrols without reasonable suspicion and denying access to lawyers? This Court decides-based on all the evidence presented-that they are.

And second, what should be done about it? The individuals and organizations who have brought this lawsuit have made a fairly modest request: that this Court order the federal government to stop. For the reasons stated below, the Court grants their request.

ICE Detains High School Student at NYC Courthouse
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers last week began standing inside and outside of immigration courts across the United States in an effort to detain certain migrants who are appearing for scheduled hearings. Immigration lawyers said ICE officers — from San Diego and Los Angeles to Boston and Miami — were targeting migrants shortly after their cases were dismissed by judges. Government lawyers are requesting that the cases be dismissed in order to place the migrants in expedited deportation proceedings.

ICE appears to be using the new strategy to place the apprehended migrants in deportation proceedings that can be fast-tracked and don’t require court hearings, an escalation of the Trump administration’s efforts to meet the president’s deportation goals.

“Dylan entered the United States with permission to seek asylum, and his detention robs him of the opportunity to seek that relief with the full protections offered to him under the law,” the New York Legal Assistance Group, an organization that provides free aid to low-income clients and is representing him, said in a statement. “He works, goes to school, has friends and was fully complying with immigration proceedings. All this does is disrupt communities and unnecessarily put people in chaotic and potentially harmful situations.” (nytimes.com)
State Department Halts Interviews for Student and Exchange Visas

In March, Mr. Rubio boasted about revoking the visa of a Turkish doctorate student and Fulbright scholar at Tufts University, Rumeysa Ozturk. The only protest action she had taken of any note was to co-write an essay in a student newspaper calling for university support of Palestinian rights and divestment from Israel. A judge this month ordered immigration officers to free her from a detention center. (nytimes.com)
Worcester father of 4-month-old deported after ICE signs document for him
AWFUL. A Brazilian guy, father of a US citizen (with no criminal record) was arrested by ICE after he honked at a car with undercover ICE officers inside.

He was waiting to get his day in court — yet his lawyers say he was just deported after an ICE officer FORGED HIS SIGNATURE.
"Even though his client refused, Lattarulo stated that ICE informed Ferreira-De Souza that they had signed the document on his behalf.

“When my client questioned it, they said, ‘we already signed for you. You’re going back.’” Lattarulo said. “They didn’t even let him talk to us the last few days he was incarcerated.”"

A Mother Took Her Sons to an ICE Check-In. She Never Saw Them Again. No criminal records. Pursuing green cards. Under Trump, it doesn’t matter.

Federal agents are also ensnaring individuals with no criminal records and some who show up at ICE offices as required. Both of those were true for the Trejo Lopez brothers. The check-in can be an easy way for the agency to juice deportation numbers, says Camille Mackler, the CEO of Immigrant ARC, a collaborative of legal-service providers in New York. She also notes that lawyers are seeing more immigrants without criminal histories being detained. “When they can deport, they’re deporting,” she says.

In another merciless aspect of the new deportation regime, immigrants can be at risk even while they seek other forms of relief. The brothers were pursuing green cards under what’s known as Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, granted to those under 21 who have suffered abuse, abandonment, or neglect by a parent. Their father had seen them exactly once since they were toddlers in a brief encounter at a barbecue. In March, after they were detained, New York Family Court found that they had been abandoned and neglected by their father and that it was not in their “best interests” to be returned to El Salvador, according to court filings. Yet they remained in custody. (nymag.com)

Trump voter shares regret when husband is deported
On Facebook, Sara Baruth shares that she voted for Trump... and he's deporting her partner and father of her children who has been here since he was a kid. Her full message:"

I voted for Trump
And it cost me immensely.

16 years ago, I met a boy. We were in high school. He became my first love, my first boyfriend and the father of my first child.
He was many things but at the top of the list was a superb father. That man would go to the ends of the earth to look for the last pencil if that’s what I told him our daughter needed.

He wasn’t JUST the father of my child. He became my bestest friend. He was my family.

His biggest fault? He wasn’t legal.
-Despite being here before he could even walk……..
-Despite not having any criminal record……
-Despite making multiple trips to DC (as an adult) to acquire the paperwork to be here the “right way”; papers his mother should have taken the responsibility to get for him when he was just a child…….
-Despite hiring immigration lawyers……

The father of my oldest child is being extradited. My oldest child is loosing her father because of Trumps immigration policies.

Do I feel like I made a mistake? Possibly. Ask me again when I’m not so emotional. What I do know is it has cost me (and my oldest daughter) GREATLY. I’m in a very dark place right now, reeling from this. I didn’t post this for sympathy. But yall need to know it’s not just “bad” people with a criminal record being deported. These people are fathers……providers. Head of the household. The enemy wins by destroying the family unit with this policy.

And this is where it’s going to get controversial…..

The past few days as I’ve pleaded, begged, absolutely bawled my eyes out to the Lord to reveal to me the benefit in this, He told me one thing. “My Hand isn’t in this daughter. When the Heavenlies are at war, there are going to be casualties. This is that.” And here is where imma give y’all something to argue about.

I don’t believe this immigration policy is in the Will of the Lord. I don’t believe in my heart that this is something Jesus would celebrate were He here.

Now you may wanna say “He is the exception and not the norm Sara.” But he was everything to me and my daughter. And even though him and I together have overcome generational and family traumas so our child didn’t have to walk through them, the enemy has still won here. That’s not something I’m ever going to celebrate. EVER. "

Trump appointed judge says use of Alien Enemies Act is illegal
The importance of a Trump-appointed judge ruling his use of Alien Enemies Act illegal can't be overstated. It's a direct rebuke to his project of declaring that he can label anyone subject to rendition by fiat.

DOGE Staffer leads charge to remove funding for immigration lawyers

Being Candid at DoJ gets you fired
The DOJ lawyer who made the mistake of answering the court's questions about Abrego-Garcia candidly (eg yes he was mistakenly deported, a fact the Administration already has acknowledged), which got him put on administrative leave, has now been fired, ending his 15-year DOJ career..
El Salvador Prison ≠ Deportation
This is an obvious point, but cannot overstated. There is an enormous difference between deporting someone - where they get off a plane as a free citizen in their home country AND FUNNELING THEM INTO A BRUTAL PRISON FROM WHICH THEY HAVE NO CHANCE OF EVER EMERGING!!!
Venezuelan couple freed by ICE in El Paso on order of federal judge
A Venezuelan couple detained in El Paso for nine days was released Friday night, after a federal judge ruled that Immigration and Customs Enforcement had failed to prove they are “alien enemies” or members of the Tren de Aragua gang.

In a scathing ruling, U.S. District Judge David Briones of El Paso said the government “has not demonstrated they have any lawful basis to continue detaining” the couple who have been held at El Paso Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center as alien enemies since April 16.

Briones also barred the government from removing any other people it is holding as enemy aliens in the Western District of Texas, which stretches from El Paso to San Antonio.

He said anyone facing that designation must be given 21 days written notice of their right to judicial review of an attempt to remove them, and the notice must be in a language they can understand.

“They have gone through four different judges, none of whom thought they should be detained. They have deep ties to their community in the United States. They have three minor children. They’ve been living peacefully in our country since 2022,” Benoit said.

Todlers represent themselves in court
After having terminated lawyers for unaccompanied children, the government is now making toddlers represent themselves in deportation proceedings.

Great reminder for those who haven't followed this issue that there is no right to a lawyer in immigration court (except the right to hire a lawyer), and that toddlers have been facing judges alone for a while.

This article is from the Obama admin.

In 2018, @lastweektonight even did an entire segment on immigration courts ((youtube.com)) which heavily featured the problem of children having to represent themselves. So this is not a new thing. But with the Trump admin cancelling legal services contracts, it's back.

Rwanda agreed to accept deportees
SCOOP — The US sent Iraqi refugee Omar Ameen to Rwanda via new diplomatic relationship in which they've agreed to act as a "third country" for deportees unable to be safely returned to their country of origin, per cables reviewed by me.

This is first reported instance. Cable indicates more to come. (thehandbasket.co)

I first learned Rwanda was open to accepting people not wanted in the US via a copy of a diplomatic cable sent in March.

A new cable sent today confirmed that the first person had been "relocated" after the US paid the Rwandan government $100,000.

The idea of using Rwanda as a third country is not new.

In 2022, the UK government under Prime Minister Rishi Sunak attempted a similar arrangement. It was mired in litigation, and ultimately killed by Keir Starmer his first day in office in 2024.

Omar Ameen was detained by the Trump administration in 2018, and later cleared by a federal judge. Immediately upon his 2021 release, ICE—under Biden—detained him. Lawyers and community leaders in Sacramento where he lived tried to get him out, but he remained imprisoned until he was sent to Rwanda.
Venezuelan man disappeared by admin
NEW from @nytimes.com: A bone-chilling account. A Venezuelan man detained alongside the 238 sent to El Salvador on March 15 seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth. His name isn't among the names of those sent to CECOT that day and no one spotted him among those men. He's just... gone.

It seems clear that Mr. Prada was deported. ICE has even said that he was deported after repeated requests for information. But they refuse to say where he was deported, and no one has any information on his whereabouts.

This seems to be a classic case of a forced disappearance.

2nd Venezuelan man disappeared by admin
NEW: A SECOND story was released today of a Venezuelan man disappeared by the Trump admin. Neiyerver Leon is a barber who entered legally seeking asylum in June 2023. ICE arrested him on March 13 and accused him of being in TdA.

Days later, he vanished off the face of the earth.

The @miamiherald.com story is chilling. 48 hours before the Trump admin flew three planeloads of people to El Salvador to be imprisoned, ICE arrested Mr. Leon (on his birthday!) because of his tattoos. Agents demand he pull up his shirt and said he was in Tren de Aragua.

He hasn't been seen since.

Read the whole story. It is shocking and horrifying. The United States government grabbed a man outside of his apartment and within less than 48 hours vanished him from the face of the earth.

He is probably imprisoned in El Salvador. But no one knows! He wasn't on the flight manifest leaked by CBS.

Trump Says Undocumented Immigrants Shouldn’t Get Trials Before Deportation
The president claimed that countries were sending their prisoners to the United States and that he needed to bypass the constitutional demands of due process to expel them quickly.

He made similar statements in a social media post on Monday in which he wrote, “We cannot give everyone a trial, because to do so would take, without exaggeration, 200 years.”

The Supreme Court ordered the administration nearly two weeks ago to facilitate [Garcia's] return so he could go through the legal system in the United States, but the White House has so far not fulfilled that order.

The White House posted on social media that the man, Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, was “never coming back.”

AG Bondi lies about Garcia
Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com‬): Bondi is escalating the rhetoric against Abrego Garcia, who she calls "one of the top MS-13 members" and "a terrorist"

Even if Bondi is right (she’s not), it doesn’t change the facts:
• he was deported to El Salvador erroneously and in violation of a judge’s order
• SCOTUS has ordered that the administration facilitate his return
• they’re ignoring that order
• one phone call to Bukele and he’s on the next plane
"We were lied to": Two women the Trump administration tried to send to El Salvador prison speak out
The women’s accounts raise questions about the thoroughness of the administration’s vetting of migrants it has sent to the notorious prison.

“We thought that perhaps the treatment from people in this country would be different toward us,” she said, but after what happened with the flights, she is sad and disappointed with the United States and just wants to be deported back to her home country, Venezuela. But her son, now 2 years old, is in the care of a relative, and she does not know whether they will be reunited. “I am very afraid, because I have always been with my son,” she said. “I have always looked after my son, but I don’t know. I wouldn’t know what to tell you.”

Their account of eight women being mistakenly taken to El Salvador and men on the flights declaring their innocence stands in contrast to the Trump administration’s claims of certainty about the fairness of the deportations. Senior members of the administration have said there is no need for judges to review the cases of those sent to El Salvador before their deportations. And they have dismissed questions from the media about their vetting process.

ICE Uses Shady Tactics at an Elementary School
ICE shows up to raid elementary school and make "welfare check" on migrant 1st graders—principal blocked entry.

Disguised federal agents told school staff that parents gave them permission to pull kids out of class—that was outright lie.

"They quickly hid their IDs" when asked for details, arrived in unmarked cars, and wore casual clothing—leading to confusion about who they actually were.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that the agents worked for them—but claim they were not technically ICE agents.

However, the federal agents only tried to make a "welfare check" on students they said were "unaccompanied minors who crossed the border."

The parents and legal guardians "deny any interaction with these entities, and certainly deny providing authorization for these individuals to have any contact with these children at the school."

Trump signed an executive order that allows ICE agents to raid schools—and arrest unaccompanied minors without a warrant.

Where is our humanity?
Where is our humanity?
Message from the Sackets Harbor Principal

As the principal of these students, I need to speak plainly.

Our three students who were taken by ICE were doing everything right. They had declared themselves to immigration judges, attended court on their assigned dates, and were following the legal process.

They are not criminals. They have no ties to any criminal activity. They are loved in their classrooms. Their family has worked at the nearby "Old McDonald's" petting zoo and dairy farm for 15 years.

They lived in a house on the same road as a home ICE had a warrant for. The fact that ICE went door to door is unfathomable. The fact that our students were handcuffed and put into the same van as the alleged criminal from down the street is unconscionable. When I think of my third grader's experience, my stomach twists and it is hard to breathe.

We are in shock-and it is that shared shock that has unified our community in the call for our students' release.

We are in direct communication with our students. Let me be clear: they are not being medically evaluated." They are not being "questioned as potential victims." Calling a detention center by another name does not change what it is.

We deserve better than spin and misinformation. My teachers and my students are already hurting.

Please, think about how long every hour feels for a third grader in a detention center.

The wait had already been too long a week ago.

I have no other agenda. Please release my students and their mother back to our community.

Revoking student visas will harm US
Even without ICE's horrible abuses, a pattern of arbitrarily revoking student visas makes the US no longer a viable schooling option for international students.

Bringing them to the US has been one of our strongest sources of soft power.

Everything this fucking guy does benefits Putin.

Elissa Taub (ejtaub.bsky.social): This is happening to students at colleges & universities nationwide. Their status is bring terminated & visa revoked. Often, the student has no obvious history to justify the govt's actions. Affected students should seek knowledgeable immigration counsel immediately.

Masked ICE thugs attempted to abduct the school nurse at Cooke Elementary School
🧵 Masked ICE thugs attempted to abduct the school nurse at Cooke Elementary School, located in the densely populated Adams Morgan section of DC. Workers at the school intervened, demanding a warrant and holding up their phones and ICE scurried off without making their arrest.

ICE then issued a statement that they weren't there to actually "detain" anybody. This is clearly contradicted by videos, witnesses, and a statement by DCPS headquarters. ICE was there for an abduction, people ran out and confronted them, so they left.

There was a march and community meeting in Adams Morgan afterwards, but school workers, parents and kids are shaken. Imagine how scary it would be to see your school nurse get kidnapped by violent thugs!

To protect our kids, teachers and school employees, every school needs a plan for what to do when ICE comes. People can have different roles -- alert colleagues, take video, call attorneys, alert the parent network, demand warrants...
